As you know, I’ve been working on the Main House Fixer Upper for months, slowly tackling project by project. Well, with the kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and entryway done, we’re finally ready to move in!! Below is a photo of the living room area with all our stuff. Nothing fits the space quite right. And we’d don’t have spot for the TV but we’ll figure it out. This post will show you the wood stove living room remodel and layout. Plus how I got a TV to work well in a space with a freestanding wood stove.
But first, let’s remember how far we’ve come! The photo below is from our first walk of the house. WOW. Also notice how the TV is on the same side as the couch on the left? That seems uncomfortable if you want to sit on the couch and watch a show.
Test Fit Wall Mounted TV Location:
Ok. So. I can’t reasonably put the TV in front of the stove. I did think about a ceiling-mounted TV that could swing down for use, but that seems like way too much work and also kind of weird looking. For viewing comfort in the living room, I don’t want to put the TV to the left of the stove. So, right of the stove it is!
The best option in this small space is to mount the TV to the wall. Below is a photo of me test-fitting our TV size options and a potential wall cabinet for TV electronics.
That TV placement works great as long as I can rotate the TV so it faces the living room when in use. Thankfully, there are TV mounts that do that, called articulating or full motion TV wall mounts.
I opted for a 55 inch Samsung TV I found on sale and a heavy-duty wall mount for extra capacity just to be safe.
Above is the newly wall-mounted TV and I’ve cleaned up the living room a bit. Next I want to add a small wall cabinet below the TV to hold cables and electronics. I’m working out ideas on the left side of the wood stove. Maybe that’s a storage area for wood? Or maybe I’ll add some floating shelves and a corner chair for a nice reading nook.
Full Motion TV Wall Mount
This full motion TV mount fits for most of 47-84inch TVs up to 132lbs with VESA size 200*100mm to 600*400mm available and max 16″ Wood Stud space.
TV Wall Cabinet and Floating Shelves:
Floating shelves and reading nook next to the wood stove sounds really cozy, so I’m going with that option. IKEA has some easy floating shelf options and wall cabinets. That’s where I found both. Below you can see the support brackets on the wall for those items. Before I put them in place, I want to paint them white to match the entry shoe cabinet for design consistency.
Here is my DIY painting station.
Kinsser primer works great for painting IKEA furniture. I give everything a quick sand, apply two coats of primer, and then two coats of Behr Scuff Defense paint in Ultra Bright White.
