If you’ve been following along, you know the Main House Fixer Upper is almost complete. I want to add some artwork. And as you know, really like DIY projects. Well, I got this Owl coloring puzzle from Mandalas Color-A-Puzzle in a white elephant gift exchange and decided to put it together and color it. Let’s see if this somewhat DIY artwork turns out good enough to frame.
Black and White Coloring Puzzle:
Below is a photo of the completed owl coloring puzzle. It’s black and white and ready for me to color it however I like! It took a few evenings, maybe a week’s worth of after dinner evenings to put this together. My husband helped a bit when he felt like it.
Add Coloring to the Puzzle:
The white elephant gift came with these Crayola Super Tips markers to color it with. So I decided to go ahead and use those. But really you could use any markers or colored pencils you want. Just make sure they have a finer tip for smaller details.
First, I started the owl coloring puzzle by coloring the eyes. Alternating warm colors with rings of cool colors helps accentuate them as a main feature. The eyes really are the most captivating part of an owl, I think anyway.
Next, I finished the rest of the coloring. The rest of the puzzle was pretty loosely planned. I let myself color freely and simply enjoy the process. It was nice not to over-plan something for once! Below is the fully colored owl puzzle. The markers were pretty brightly colored so this turned out very colorful!
Frame Colored Puzzle:
Finally, I framed the completed colored puzzle. Below is the finished puzzle framed and hung in the hallway. A fun and unique sort of DIY artwork to add to your home.
Do you like how it turned out? I think it adds a nice pop of color to the Main House. It is framed with an IKEA Ribba frame in 19 3/4 inch x 27 1/2 inch. The puzzle fit great behind the white mat that comes with the frame. The white frame and mat keeps the focus on the owl itself.
This was a really fun gift to receive. It’s calming to put together a puzzle and color it, even as an adult. Fun that you can personalize the coloring however you like!
