Small IKEA Kitchen Remodel – Before & After

Wow we’re come a long way on the Main House Fixer Upper here at One Hundred Acres Home. I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing the kitchen come to life. But first, the kitchen “before”, where it all started.

And now, TA-DA! Here is the finished small IKEA kitchen remodel! These are IKEA Lerhyttan cabinet doors with IKEA cabinets that I put together myself, more details on those are here. The countertops are white quartz ordered from IKEA and professionally installed.

The island is the Vadholma model from IKEA. It has storage for pots on the refrigerator side and seating for two. The black stools are Dalfred stools also from IKEA.

Here is a better look at the floating shelves and the kitchen sink. I love the bistro feel of the full-height wall tile and the large single basin sink.

The upper cabinets with the cabinet lighting help bring more light to the dark cabinets. See the small circle on the right end of the backsplash? That’s the wireless remote for the cabinet lighting, all from IKEA.

The upper and lower cabinet hardware is all brass to give some warmth to the cooler black and white. I splurged on these from Rejuvenation. Unfortunately, the cabinet knobs are out of stock, but Amazon has some very similar ones here.

The drawer pulls are Mission Bin Pulls from Rejuvenation in aged brass. Amazon has a similar option here. Make sure you order a test product to test coloring if you’re mixing brass from different manufacturers. They don’t all have the same hue sometimes.

I learned that from experience, but thankfully the brass ceiling light above the sink matches the hardware close enough. That light is from West Elm and matches the milk globe with brass light I used in the laundry area remodel. Amazon also has a similar light option here.

The ceiling fan adds a cool modern look with the black. I love this fan so much that I have it the bedroom and the office as well. It is the Cranbrook model from Hunter Fans.

Small IKEA Kitchen Remodel Finishing Details:

These are some last finishing details I thought you might like. Below is a photo where I tested the placement of the cabinet pulls. The corner placement seems more common, but I really liked the look and feel of the knobs set just a hair up from the corner.

Here’s how I determined the final knob placement: a 45 degree up from the inside corner of the frame.

Drilling holes in finished cabinet doors is stressful! Start with a very tiny drill to start the hole and keep the drill from walking. I also used a backing block to keep the drill from blowing out the back side. Here is my backing block and clamps.

One last finishing note with IKEA Cabinets. There will be tones of holes in the cabinet walls for shelf pegs. IKEA sells small plugs to make those holes disappear. And the good news is that you can remove them if you want to change your self heights later on.

Here is a photo of the small plugs from IKEA called Variera. I found them in the Kitchen section near all the cabinet hardware and kitchen accessories.

Here is a close up of the filled cabinet holes. Much better!

Below is a photo of myself in the new kitchen. Those are my newly washed work pants I wore for this remodel and many other projects. They’re clean so I won’t mark the cabinets, but they have colors from all the different materials that went into this project: paint, wood stain, caulking, thin set, grout, etc.
