How to Install Outdoor Anti Slip Tape at Entry

We’re shifting gears at One Hundred Acres Home and heading over to my in-laws house for some easy DIY projects. The in-laws are getting older. So my husband and I stop by every month or so to help out. Today we’ll be installing some outdoor traction tape on the concrete step of their front entry. The anti slip tape also has a glow in the dark stripe. This should provide some extra traction and help with the step. This is an easy DIY project to help make your home a safer, less hazardous place to be.

Here is a close up photo of the label on the anti slip tape. We found this on Amazon.com and got it shipped right to the house. We opted for the 4″ wide tape with a glow in the dark strip for added safety after dark.

Below is a photo of the packaged tape from the side. You can see the glow in the dark strip is smooth. The rest of the tape has small sand-like black granules embedded in the adhesive to give the tape its traction.

Step 1. Clean Landing

First things first, we need a clean surface so the traction tape can properly adhere. Our concrete step only needed a quick sweep. You may need to give your steps a scrubbing or wash down depending on how much dirt is on the surface. Make sure to let the surface dry before moving on to the next step.

Step 2. Measure Out Anti Slip Tape

Next, measure out the length of tape you need. Simply roll it out and cut the tape with regular scissors. We cut our anti slip tape in two sections to avoid the concrete joint. That way the tape does not have to span that joint as it would create a weak point where the tape could rip over time.

Step 3. Apply Anti Slip Tape on Outdoor Concrete Step

To apply the anti slip tape to a surface, peel back the paper film on the underside of the tape to expose the sticky adhesive side.

Then line up your tape where you want it to start. Press it in place and slowly roll back the removable backing.

Step 4. Roll or Press Tape

Roll or press the tape firmly to the surface as you work to avoid any bumps or bubbles in the tape. Shorter strips are easier!
