My husband and I are vising his folks for Father’s Day weekend. We like to help with anything that needs cleaning or fixing when we visit because we know those things get harder to do as you get older. My mother-in-law requested, if we were up for it, to clean the linoleum kitchen floors as they were getting grimy and sticky from years of ground-in dirt. We are happy to help. This post will show you how we deep cleaned the kitchen linoleum floors to get them looking and feeling good as new without having to scrub!
Below is a “before” photo of the linoleum flooring. It might not look too dirty in the photo. But let’s get cleaning. You’ll see it has a built in layer of grime.
Drill Brush Attachment for Deep Cleaning Linoleum Floors:
Like I said, we’re happy to help. BUT we weren’t really in the mood to jus grab a hand brush and start scrubbing for hours on end. My husband is always finding easier ways to do things. He swears he’s not lazy. He just doesn’t like to do things if there is an easier way. I get that.
Below is box of scrubbing brushes and pads with drill attachments that my husband found on Amazon. They take all the hard work out of scrubbing by letting your drill do the work for you. There are 30 different attachments in this kit with options they recommend for cleaning grout, tile, sinks, bathtubs, etc along with a specific attachment for linoleum.

Deep Cleaning Linoleum Floors:
Below is a photo of the Simple Green cleaning solution we used. It’s a great non-toxic cleaner and degreaser that really came in handy to get all that built in greasy kitchen grime off the floors.
Simple Green Concentrated Cleaner
- All-purpose cleaner and degreaser
- Removes stains and odors
- Safe for all washable surfaces
- Nontoxic, nonabrasive formula
- Noncaustic and solvent-free
We mixed the concentrated Simple Green with water in a bucket, dipped the scrubber brush in the solution, and got to work. Below is a photo of my husband doing a first test scrub. I guess we could have chosen a more conspicuous spot for a test, but we were feeling confident this would great.
The cleaning solution is quite sudsy when scrubbed as you can see below.
We wiped the suds away with dry towel after only 15 or so seconds of scrubbing. Below is the test patch. Wow that’s a big difference already!
I grabbed my husband my favorite gel knee pads to keep his knees comfortable on the floor. These kneed pads have helped me install new hardwood floors in the Main House and DIY pine flooring in the Front Cabin.

More Easy Cleaning Tools:
The drill bit attachment box is the least expensive option if you already have a drill and you don’t mind still getting on the floor.
That option worked great for us, but if want to make this job even easier, check out this electric scrubber tool with an extension rod so you can deep clean you linoleum floors while standing. That’s pretty cool. It would work great in showers too.

Cleaning Floors at the Cabinets:
The green headed brush we used didn’t quite clean the linoleum in the cabinet toe kick areas. So we used this round drill attachment brush that also comes in the box of brushes.
Clean Linoleum Kitchen Flooring:
So is this deep cleaning actually worth it? Below is a progress photo. You can see a line that separates the cleaned floor from the dirty floor.
Below are the finished deep cleaned linoleum floors! They look brand new.
Below is the “before” and “after” right next to each other. All that ground in dirt and grease is gone. The floors look a lot lighter,, but more importantly, they also feel a lot cleaner. No more sticky kitchen floors!
